Great Discovery in Lone Pine!

A long desert road trip brought us back to the Owens Valley on the way home. Had a few names from online searches and settled on the Alabama Hills Cafe & Bakery. It turned out to be the kind of Cafe that one wishes for on a road trip..... friendly service, generous portions of well executed classics and good scratch baking! Oh if I only lived closer! They're open for breakfast and lunch - don't forget the baked goods - maybe even take a piece of pie to go?
We both had the roast beef hash with potatoes and eggs. The hash was a simple mix of meat & potato (maybe a bit of onion?) but not too dense in texture. My generous portion of hash brown potatoes were almost fluffy but with a crispy top. So had the cottage fries. I had my eggs over easy and SO had two poached eggs - both done as ordered. Even the orange garnish was good - from a jumbo orange and juicy/sweet. The biscuits were served warm with butter rosettes and they were light/fluffy. We were happy. Took a slice of berry pie to go - enjoyed it later on.
The next morning we tried the pancakes - with blueberries and buttermilk ones - both were very nicely done. Also liked the strawberry coffee cake that was warm right out of the oven. Mmmm.....
Any room for improvement? Our booth was snug - feet kept getting kicked by person across the booth ....... and the iced tea was a bit weak ( a lot of ice didn't help ). Glass mugs served as water glasses and they were huge so you won't have to ask for water as often. Prices are reasonable. Check this place out when you're near Lone Pine. The owner came by to chat with us and the service staff is very nice.
