The day after Christmas, my wife and I, who were visiting relatives in the North Hills, spent a leisurely day of drinking in the City of Steel. It sure was fun to be back in "the burg" after a few years' absence. The hills, the city steps, the long rows of brick homes, what a feeling! We lunched at the venerable Church Brew Works, having a salmon BLT and a spinach and feta pizza, all washed down with some delectable brew (an amber, a porter, and a stout). The food was decent, but, as usual, it was the atmosphere of the place that won the day. Service was great, too. After eating, we walked off the meal by hoofing it to The Sharp Edge, in Friendship (the stroll through Bloomfield was wonderful). As always, The Sharp Edge kocked our socks off with a fantastic selection of Belgian beers, many of them fresh from the tap. The place had been renovated since we had last been there and looked much improved. Friendly, quick service, too. Reading through the City Paper, we saw that a lot of bars and restaurants seemed to have opened since our last visit, so we should have our work cut out for us for another round next year.
