Probably my most favorite Chinese restaurant in Berkeley just gave me a great disappointment! For years I have been touting Great China on Kittredge as one of the jewels of the East Bay: Amazing Double Skin, exquisite Tea Smoked Duck, etc, etc. Yesterday every dish we ordered was awful. Oily, overcooked, too salty. The place was full as always and the owner was in. To their credit, the waitress came by and looked at one of the dishes (the garlic stems with dry tofu) and said they looked "too old and fibrous...do we want a different dish instead!(She even tasted one)

Before I approach the owner to find out if the chef left or there is a problem I thought I would ask if anyone has been at the restaurant lately and what they thought. I will wait a couple weeks (while I am vacationing in Iceland)before I go back.I would appreciate any input from fellow Chowhounds!!!
