Great Chilean pastry in Palm Springs

Mick Ruthven | Mar 3, 200607:28 PM

I'm in Palm Springs for a few days visiting friends, and today wandered into a quite small place right in the heart of the businesses. I'm still not sure what the name of the place is, since the window (and the flyer I'm looking at now) said "Chilean Red Pepper Health Nut Corner", "Natural Bakery Express", and "Home of the Original Palm Springs Date Shakes". I went in and spied a not-familiar round pastry with chocolate on top. I asked the woman beind the counter about it, and it turned out that she was the owner, originally from Chile, and she makes all the pastry herself. I ate one right there, and it was wonderful. Very fresh, moist, dense, and different from anything I've ever had. I don't know the name of it, but it was so good that I'd try any (really all) of her pastry and other special-sounding things if I were spending more time here. She has other pastries, empanadas and other lunch-type items, also smoothies and date shakes.

For the name, see above...
