Great little burger spot/diner in Richmond Va. "Pop's Dog's & Ma's Burgers"

"Pop's Dogs & Ma's Burgers"

7301 Brook Rd. Richmond VA. 23227

At the intersection of juicy goodness and old school preparation and charm lays "Pop's Dogs and Ma's Burgers," and is a blast from the past that you must bring into your present and future.

Signature Bacon Inside-Out cheeseburgers, and amazing World Famous Bologna Burgers that would have Oscar and all the Mayers weeping with delight, along with salty delicious hot dogs, Sailors, BLT's, chefs salads, and frothy rich milkshakes, among a myriad of other well-prepared diner staples, are served by masters of the griddle at this small location that offers big, flavorful American food without pretension.

A half dozen parking spots line the front of the building, located at the busy corners of Brook Rd. and Lakeside Blvd./Lakeside Ave., with extra parking on both sides, and picnic tables available in the quaint, bright and clean outside dining area behind the main building.

Just past the counter, lined with 6 chrome padded fountain stools, David manned the grill, and prepared everything to homemade perfection before our eyes, delivering it quickly, and with a professional, friendly and inviting attitude that was reflected in the food he presented.

Although David was the only one manning the grill and cash register on our visit, and had four orders before him, and two more coming in the door behind us, he never missed a beat or an item on our order.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served, with everything from bacon, egg and cheese biscuits, to nightly specials including spaghetti, meatloaf, or pot roast, jerk or fried chicken, and pork barbecue or ribs.

We ordered:

Bacon Inside-Out Cheeseburger w/ everything…including Jalapenos – Crisp bacon, juicy/meaty - never frozen - Angus beef patties and extra American cheese melded together perfectly with all the fixins.

World Famous Bologna Burger – No jaw can widen large enough to encompass a full bite of this mouthwatering, two-handed disc of delight. Thick cut, excellent quality bologna (oxymoron? ) is dressed with anything you like on this signature sandwich. Jalapenos again adorned mine, along with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, mustard and American cheese, making a complete and balanced double fisted grenade of gastronomical awesomeness.

Regular Cheeseburger – Like the Bacon stuffed burger but smaller and no less lacking in deliciousness.

Onion Rings – Standard, but large, well-prepared and perfect dippers for the Heinz.

There’s nothing fancy here, in this kitschy/eclectic little diner, and you won’t find burgers with fancy names and beef from exotic places, but you will find well-made, straightforward and delicious food, with enough variety to please every palate, and a warmth that makes you feel right at home, with good food that gives you enough reason to return again and again to this cozy corner where you won't leave hungry or disappointed.
