We were heading to BAM this afternoon to see Fiona Shaw in "Happy Days" (very lucky us) and knew we'd need some sustenance beforehand. I was looking for someplace good for brunch not too far away but realized that I haven't gone out for brunch in an age.
I couldn't find any recent reviews to direct me on the board but my friend decided on Jolie and got us a 12:30 reservation.
I arrived and it was totally uncrowded. I was the first of our group and they very pleasantly offered to seat me. I had coffee well in hand by the time my friends arrived a few minutes later. Good coffee too. It was Illy by what I saw on the grinder.
It's a very spacious airy restaurant with a fair amount of room between tables and a bright view of the garden in the back. (Much of the back room was taken up by a baby shower - note to self: this is a good spot for a party!)
The waitstaff was very pleasant and attentive without ever being annoying. Our food came quickly and deliciously. My friends got omelettes with delicious looking - and tasting - fries. I ordered the salad paysanne which was a salad w/a poached egg, lardons, potatoes and balsamic dressing. It was heavenly. Close to that very traditional French frisee salad w/lardons and poached egg but even more delicious. They bring around these wonderfully crusty tasty yeasty rolls - willingly refilling - with raspberry jam and delicious butter. And more coffee. Always more coffee. And then they blessedly leave you alone. Oh Joy!
We wanted to sit for a while and so ordered the cobbler for a shared dessert. Although the room was pretty filled by this point they never hassled us. We had to wait for the cobbler to be made to order but man was that worth the wait. It was scrumptious with a delicious whipped cream on the side.
I just had to tell all of you in case you haven't been. I can't wait to go back Maybe next time for dinner. Any recommendations for dinner there??
