Thank You for a great birthday weekend!

As a temporary (hope, hope) expat I would like to thank a great City for a spectacular birthday weekend. These details might give away my secret chowhound identity, but I have to give props to NOLA, Cafe Degas, Parkway, McHardy's, Terranovas and Cajun Seafood on Broad.

Roadtripped into town from Miami and our first food stop was Cajun Seafood Market on Broad Street. Close to home, friendly, safe, clean and quite a bargain. 2 pounds of large boiled shrimp, 2 boudin links, 2 meat pies, 1 lg dressed turkey po'boy, a 6 pack of MGD and a 4 pack of mini wine bottles was $45.56. Every single thing was delicious. This kind of place makes me feel sad for anyone who doesn't just give it a try. Our first meal was takeout around the kitchen island and it was GLORIOUS.

Birthday dinner at NOLA was fantastic. Totally my favorite Emeril's resto and really a fantastic bargain. Our foursome ordered 6 apps, 4 entrees, 2 gumbos and a salad, a bottle of champagne and 2 bottles of Albarino (along with various beers) and the bill was $326. This included a comped "dessert storm" . Cannot say enough about the stuffed wings, bbq shrimp, buttermilk chix, smoked duck and gumbo. Loved this meal. The atmosphere is great and the service outstanding.

Lunch at Degas...classic! Nothing makes me feel more like a girly girl than quiche, salade frisee and a bottle fume blanc for lunch. This is by far the most consistent restaurant I've had the good fortune to patronize and I love the atmosphere. All 6 of us ordered the same things we've been ordering for years. Quiche, onion soup, omelette crevettes, steak frites, fried liver...and it was all better than ever. Also, you cannot beat the cheese/charcuterie course here...well worth the calories!

Parkway....need I say more? No trip is complete without a shrimp po'boy (butter and pickles only, please) roast beef w/gravy and a side of sweet potato fries. Awesome hangover remedy! Speaking of hangover patented cure is the following: 1 comfy couch, 1 large flatscreen, 1 gallon of gatorade and a box of McHardy's fried chicken. Last night was totally worth it! Bright yellow potato salad is available on Friday and Saturday at McHardy's.

Finally, my biggest Thank You goes to Terranova's Market. DAMN THAT IS SOME GOOD SAUSAGE!!!!! I just want to hug everyone in the store for making us feel like we're at home home every time we walk in the door. 5lbs of sweet italian and 5lbs of smoked should last a few weeks here in the Sunshine State.

So, to those of you who read these reviews and think you know who I is the definative clue: YES...I got a drunken tattoo on my birthday this weekend and YES I have to wait 4 months before I can begin the laser removal process...figure it out yet????

Thanks to all who made my birthday great...hopefully I'll get fired soon and be able to move back home. Until then, I'll be trippin' over to check on my house, my friends and that sausage!
