Went to Gravy for lunch Monday. I had heard very mixed reviews on it, but went anyway. We split the pancake flight, hash, and patty melt with a roasted banana milkshake.
Pancakes - red velvet we took one bit and left the rest, but the pineapple and whatever the 3rd was, were both very good. Didn't care much for the syrup which seemed to be corn syrup, nor the cinnamon butter which was gritty and bitter from cinnamon, but the pancakes themselves were very good and big.
The hash was tasty, but didn't feel hashy to me. I expect hash to be clumped a bit from the pressing or binded by eggs or something, so the texture wasn't quite what I was lookign for but flavors were good.
The patty melt is what I did the most damage to. Good sized, tasty, well cooked patty with sauteed onions and such on marbled rye.
Banana milkshake was good - could have been better if they used good ice cream.
So I would go back - quality to price were appropriate. My comment is about what they're trying to be. The bathroom was too fancy for the whole place; the decor felt modern upscale diner, and they had things like "flights," that made me think they were going for upscale, but the food was more just fresh diner, not necessarily fancy or modern.
I don't write about restaurants that I don't think are good and worth going to, just know I'm very constructively critical. I'd like to go back for dinner and see how it is.
