A gratuitous piece of advice for visitors to Paris - keep a date or two free for last minute decisions

When I was young, many years ago, I clipped articles from Gourmet, Le Monde, etc. and got friends' recommendations and obsessed over them for hours, I bought the Gault & Millau magazine, Pudlo and Lebey and stewed.

Now much later, I largely go to brand new places and sometimes places so far un-reviewed, just because they look cool.

As I think back on the last few weeks I realize if I had to do it all over again, I'd leave more decisions to the last minute. While I no longer think "you cannot have a bad meal in Paris or Barcelona or outside Turin," sometimes you fall onto great places. Just this month, I've tumbled on Le Desnoyez, Detour and Alan Geaan, which I believe Mangeur already noted, and it convinced me that one should not book every meal 3 months in advance.

Macron may marche, but Paris also bouge.
