Grasshopper- Review - Durham

Chapel Will | Oct 31, 2005 08:33 AM

We finally made it to Grasshopper last night.

What was right - Our server was very friendly and attentive. The space is very attractive, and looks like it would be a happening place on a non-Sunday. I appreciate that they are open on Sunday. Spicy coconut soup we started with was decent. I enjoyed the carafe thing with the wine.

What was wrong - Server was not very knowledgeable about the food. He actually asked us, "what is that in your soup?" as he pointed toward what I thought was a lemongrass stem.

What was awful - The Chinese wheat noodles with vegetables and spicy peanut sauce...not spicy, heavy, peanut goo smothering and causing noodles and sauce to clump together into a bland and inseparable mass.

What was AWESOME - Spicy prawn special...a beautiful stir-fry of pea shoots, asparagus, scallions, garlic, chilis and a bounty of large shrimp in a lovely dark sauce with steamed rice. Detlefchef...Put this on the menu, please!
