I should have known better. It's been panned on this board multiple times - but an empty frig and a late hour combined with the handsome decor resulted in a spur of the moment meal at Grasshopper last night.
Maybe it was the fresh memory of wonderful food at ridiculously low prices during my long holiday weekend in the Yucatan, but this place just seriously mediocre.
Our selections all seemed to be painted with the same cloying miso glaze - from an over-cooked grilled tuna tapa to the eggplant, bok choy dish. The spinach and tofu salad came with a mere 4 tiny cubes of tofu and a pile of spinach with a bland, unmemorable dressing. The one saviour was the carrot and ginger soup. This was yummy and my boyfriend and I were fighting over it like children.
With a round of drinks (Trumer Pils and a Pinot Gris from Oregon), the tab came to $48 with tax but before tip - a very poor value, IMO. Thank god we weren't ravenous.
Service was efficient but cold - no matter what we said or did the server was a total automadon - she did not crack even the slightest smile.
I won't be back anytime soon.
