OK, these seem like 2 unlikely pairs but a friend and I were on a food binge on Sunday and had dinner at Grand Sichuan then dessert at Chickalicious.
Grand Sichuan was really god, as usual. This was my first try at having a soup dumpling and they were really good. I wonder where the best ones in NYC are? I wanna explore these more. The 2 main dishes we had were the Red Cooking Pork & Chestnut. As if the chestnut wasn't good enough the fatty pork was yummy. It was sort of like unsmoked bacon. This was in a light broth served over steamed spinach. Our second entree was the Aui Zhau Chicken which was also very good, but fiery hot. My friend loved the heat but I think I would prefer it a bit more mild. Even though it was hot, it was really good.
After we finished stuffing ourselves we went over to Chikalicious for dessert. I was warned before going that this was not a gooey dessert place. It really wasn't. It's more about taste and your senses then stuffing yourself. I guess $12 isn't bad for a 3 course dessert menu but the servings were really tiny. I actually snorted the Petit Fours up my nose. ONLY KIDDING! I had the wine ice cream with marinated cherries and cinnamon shortbread. My friend had the Warm Chocolate Tart with Pink Peppercorn Ice Cream and Red Wine Sauce. The pink peppercorn ice cream was truly original.
Anyway, I have photos on my web-sight. Take a look...
Chikalicious is under the "Eat - Desserts" link and Grand Sichuan is under "Eat - Chinese". There are actually 2 reviews for Grand Sichuan.
