Went to Grand Shanghai (formerly East Star) on Rt. 1 in Edison last night, first time in perhaps 4 months. The menu is still somewhat limited but they seem to have expanded beyond Shanghai-style Chinese to spicier chow like you'd get at a Szechuan place. Bring a friend who can read Chinese to check out the specials posted on the walls (they've redecorated since I was there last).
Oh and be sure to order the steamed pork soup buns - they're vastly improved since my last time there. No more dry, lukewarm buns with too-thick "skin". They're actually now on par with the steamed soup buns from Shanghai Park in Highland Park.
