I went to the Grand Century Mall in San Jose yesterday for the first time in several years. The food court looked nicer than I remembered it, although I don't think anything really has changed since 2009 when I last went: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/597001
We had the banh khot from the banh khot stand....they are white here (without any turmeric), and they are very crispy. No eggs are used in making banh khot at all, so my previous 2009 observation was mistaken. The lack of turmeric explains the color difference.
I also had the chao ga, which comes with a chicken salad on the side. I liked the porridge, which I ordered with a fried donut, but didn't love the salad, which was mostly cabbage and raw onion, topped with chicken and served w/ a ginger dressing.
Also tried a fresh, warm soymilk from the juice stand to the left of the chao place...and this was very good. It was flavored with pandan leaf, and was tinted green thanks to this addition.
There's lots to try in this food court, and hopefully I'll be back relatively soon!
