Grand Ave.: The good, the bad, the closed, the untried

Tried to meet friends at Oggi for lunch. Closed for lunch throughout July and August, opening at 3:00 p.m.

Ate at Salerno's. Terrible food. Good collection of signed photos of Blackhawks, though.

Saw Vinnie's Sub Shop around where Sausy used to be, and also Grand Stand Italian ice on the other side of the street, kitty-corner from Oggi. Has anyone tried either place?

Had supper at Boston Blackie's east of Michigan Ave. My first time there, but I could become a regular. Good cheeseburger, Goose Island root beer, fast and accommodating service, solid feel to the barroom, populated with what appeared to be lots of longtime fans of the place.

I'm thinking that when eating on Grand west of the Kennedy, only do take-out, that is, Bari and D'Amatos.
