Two graduation dinners in Philly--ideas?

The boyfriend is graduating on May 30th and his extended family is coming to town. He has put me on an investigative mission here, 'Hounds, because we need to find two restaurants to take them to.

Here's the deal: one dinner will be with children (4 kids aged 9-12 and 1 3-year-old), and one will be without them. The bigger group will probably be 16 people, and the smaller group 11. His grandparents may or may not come, but they are included in the figures; if they are coming, "ethnic" food is probably out of the question, and if they're not, it might be too risky of a choice anyway. No foodie types except the two of us and his mother, but apparently no exceptional pickiness (keep the kids in mind) or diet-restriction issues. I don't know any of them except his immediate family, so this is, uh, intimidating.

Sooo... we were sort of thinking that Monk's might be a good place with kids (burgers, etc., you know--and mussels for me!) and White Dog without them. $ is not a huge object, I guess, but less-expensive suggestions welcome. (Maybe a casual Italian joint with kids? Not sure.)

Any feedback on these ideas? Any new suggestions? Keep in mind that we're going to want to make a reservation ASAP, but a place that needs reservations at least a month in advance is out, as are BYOBs. It's a big graduation weekend...

Thanks a lot!
