Not like the ones I know.
Years ago in a long-since-gone Whittier resturant, I enjoyed their take on gorditas that were unlike the others I always see. These were made up of two corn tortillas, dipped in hot oil to soften and heat them, then white cheese between, which melted. Finally a scoop of chile verde on top. Ever see a dish like this prepared anywhere?
