Gooseberry Red Currant Tart?

oakjoan | Sep 27, 2011 02:14 PM

I bought 2 packs of fresh goosberries and 2 packs of fresh red currants yesterday for 59 cents each. They were in my new favorite section of Berkeley Bowl, the bruised and slightly too old for regular sale section. Great bargains like 4 artichokes for 99 cents or a big bag of vari-colored peppers also for 99 cents.

So now I want to make a tart using both kinds of berries for the filling. I figure they're both quite tart. - a tart tart?

Also, I think I'll need to put them through the food mill to get rid of the seeds (espec in the currants). Will the tart work even if the fruit is semi-pulverized?

Also again, do you think I should make a sort of custard base for it? I'm thinking that there will be a much smaller amount of currants/berries after I take out the seeds and some skins.

Any suggestions welcomed.
