We enjoyed a very good meal at Amy's Pho on 301 in SRQ. The beef broth based Pho was excellent and much better that Pho Cali and the other Vietnamese restaurants in town. It had depth of deep beef flavor and contained strips of beef and meat balls. The accompanying plate of bean sprouts, vietnamese basil, jalepeno peppers and stalks of cilantro were fresh and a great addition to the rice noodled stock. We also had a Banh Mi sandwich made on a fresh roll baked at the restaurant. The traditional filing was also fresh and tasty. We began with springs rolls which contained slices of shrimp and a delicious dipping sauce.
The place was clean and the young owners were friendly and welcoming. It is a family operation.
The male owner told us how he learned to make Pho from his father-in-law, an accomplished Vietnamese chef.
The meal was very good. And it was fun to support a hard working family who prepare authentic food and are trying to make it during difficult economic times. We will definitely go back with some friends.
