Good Turkish alternatives - UES

jen kalb | Jun 27, 201601:51 PM

Since it has been increasingly difficult to find good midrange dining choices in Midtown and UES in recent years we have been very happy to find that Turkish food scene is alive and well; we've had very good meals at three -Orhan Yegen's UES Francela takeout (unfortunately now closed), his Sip Sak in Midtown East (excellent mezze and lamb dishes) and most recently this last weekend when we had an extremely pleasant lunch at Beyoglu on the UES. Our meal was a big and varied vegetarian meze platter - all of the selections were delicious - and an ample dish of nicely seasoned fried calf liver (cooked medium rare as ordered) with sumac-sprinkled onion, all offered with a fresh and warm round of turkish bread. Setting at tiled top tables with the breeze blowing in was pleasant and our fellow guests (as at Beyoglu) included prosperous looking Turks and middle eastern folks. Our lunch (for 2) was a bargain $24. HIghly recomend! I would like to sample some of the fish dishes at these places in future.

Sipsak,
Beyoglu
