Last weekend we dined at Chaba Thai Bay Grill on PCH, and were pleasantly surprised. The large room is beautifully decorated, and they also have a tiny outdoor patio (which unfortunately faces PCH).This is definitely an "upscale" experience, prices are a bit higher than standard Thai fare, but one $18 entree we had was definitely worth it. The server recommended the lamb shank stew, so we tried it, and it was absolutely fabulous! This was a beautiful curried lamb on bone that melted in your mouth. The peanuts and purple potatoes added great texture, and there were seasonings in this slightly spicy dish I've never tasted before (one that looks like a pistachio nut, but you don't eat the interior, just chew on it to extract the flavor). We also liked the Thai dumplings, but the shrimp with chili and basil was good, but not outstanding. Our server said the items listed under "specialties" were the best, as was our lamb. She also recommended the steak dishes listed therein. We will definitely be back for more. I also like the fact that the menu offers brown rice in addition to white.
