Good Sushi in Foster-Powell (SE PORTLAND)

I promised to post about my experiences as I eat around my new neighborhood in Portland (I moved here in Nov. from NYC). SO far, Asian food rules here in Foster-Powell. I've posted about Pho Hung and Thai Hut already. Here's another to make a trilogy of yummy Asian places in my SE neighborhood.

It is called Ichidai and is on SE Powell (S side of street) at about 57th St.

I had a nice sushi platter - nice variation, really good ama ebi (raw sweet shrimp) - almost creamy texture and sweet, tuna, unagi (eel) and a bunch of others. Of note, a really good mixed seafood roll (rainbow roll, I think?) made an appearance on the plate, too.

Partner (not a seafood fan) had a combo where you could pick two items from about 6 entrees. She chose chicken tempura and Kara-age (well fried, greaseless chicken pieces with the skin on). Both were tasty but the kara-age was fabulous.

Friend had the Ichidai dinner. A huge bento with a generous serving of both teriyaki and tempura, sushi, sashimi, seaweed salad and other stuff I can't remember - a very good value (about $13) and everything was good on it.

All of our dinners came with a good miso soup and a small bowl of vinegared cucmber. For three with a large sake and a glass of plum wine (called "premium" because it had an actual plum in it! nice touch), the bill was just over $50. That's not bad for a meal at a Japanese place, in my book.

As a note on authenticity - there were several tables of Japanese folks (they were Asian and speaking Japanese). I will go back and I suggest y'all try it out!
