Good scrapple?

Question

I recently went on a weekend trip to Philadelphia and was introduced to scrapple, via printed menu. I never ate it because all of my waitresses made it sound repulsive but I have done some research about it since my return. Where do you get good scrapple around Boston? Any other thoughts are appreciated.

The short answer is, you don't. But you gan get ok scrapple in Stop and Shop.
 
I grew up in Philly and love scrapple. Yes, I know what's in it and I don't care. 
 
Check the frozen breakfast foods section of your local Stop and Shop. they will sometimes carry it, only one brand. It varies by store. Buy it, defrost it in the fridge - never in the microwave - cut it into 1/4 inch slices and fry it in a hot pan. I spray the pan with a little Pam. Wait until it's crispy brown, flip it, brown it on the other side, then eat it. Yum! My partner likes his with hot sauce.

As a former Philadelphian, married to a wonderful woman from far western PA, I can say definitively that I have NEVER met anyone who likes scrapple who did not grow up eating it on a regular basis. If you grow up with it - it is wonderful comfort food, especially for breakfast, but enjoyable any time of the day.
 
I lived in Philly for 14 years and still can't stand the stuff. For me, it is primarily a texture issue... others complain about the taste.. still others (not true 'hounds of course) are grossed out by the ingredients.

Baltimore diners had their share of scrapple on the menu - the ubiquitous brand was Rapa brand scrapple.

It's an acquired taste but once in a while a nostalgia thing. I think it's a waste to even think of linking maple syrup with scrapple, but sauteed apples with scrapple are something else. As others have said, scrapple should be sliced thinly and pan-fried till crispy. Serve with scrambled eggs as shown in the photo.
 
I checked Zern's Farmers Market site (www.zerns.com), definitely a scrapple source. Scroll through the list of vendors. Some have websites. Zern's is on Route 100 in Gilbertsville near Pottstown. Spring Glen Farms also sells there -- lovely corn relish, pepper cabbage, and such. There are also some farm butchers on that route, one that I know does venison for the local hunters. If Rosenberry's in Pottstown still exists, that was my source for sweet sausage, ring bologna, pepper cabbage, sticky buns, and scrapple, if so inclined. Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia has all the same stuff, a chowhounder's joy.
