Any good salt-rising bread out there?

I remember wonderful salt-rising bread from my childhood from a local bakery. Now salt-rising bread has pretty much disappeared from the scene. I've found quite a few potential sources from the internet and have ordered bread from six of the places over several years. Only one batch of bread, from Lawson's Goodies Bakery in Leslie, Michigan, was remotely like I remember and it was great! But alas, they've been closed for a few years.

Does anyone know of a source of really good salt-rising bread? By that I mean with these qualities:

- Dense, not light and airy.
- Strong pungent aroma when toasted that fills the kitchen (and the house!).
- Strong "unique" flavor when toasted.

If anyone is interested, I'll post my list of sources with notes from the ones I've tried.
