This summer our family spent four days in Slovenia which were sandwiched in between three weeks over northern Italy. As opposed to Italy, where it is hard (but not impossible) to find a bad restaurant, I found Slovenia's restaurants mostly an imitation of Austrian and Czech cuisine. There were some highlights, like some regional sausages and cheeses, but generally the food was decent but utterly unexciting. Ahead of the trip, I tried to do some research but couldn't find anything. In fact, there is only one (1) general tourist guide to Slovenia (Lonely Planet's), which is kind of surprising, considering how much good press Slovenia has been getting. Beverage-wise, I liked their beers, but the much-touted wines (admittedly touted by their tourist boards) were a disappointment.
Anybody have any opinions on Slovenian food and/or wine?
