Good read: Bruce Franklin, "The Most Important Fish in the Sea"

On the Eastern/Gulf menhaden fishery, which is nearing collapse. Menhaden are very efficient at converting plant matter to flesh, hence a vital link in the system supporting fish-eating fish (and we who eat them). They have been way overfished, mostly because they were a cheap source of industrial oils. Recommended for anybody interested in sustainability and/or fish.
