We are a couple travelling to Portugal for New Year's and have a couple more general questions.
First of all, some context:
We'll be in Lisbon for about 3 days and in Porto for about 2.5 days. In Lisbon we'll be staying on Av. dos Combatentes and visiting Alfama, Bairro Alto and Belem. In Porto we'll be staying in Vila Nova de Gaia and visiting it, plus Santo Ildefonso and Boavista.
We have no dietary restrictions and I prefer seafood, beef, and game, while my husband is partial to chicken and pork.
My questions are for both cities:
1. What places would you recommend for portuguese food? You can consider a range from street food to high end restaurants. Our main goal is to try a rage of portuguese food and we are not interested on this occasion on international food (unless maybe it's a good portuguese+something else fusion). It would also be good if you can mention if a certain restaurant you are recommending is better at seafood, pork, or whatever else.
2. What local wines do you recommend? Any good places for vinho verde? We like dry red and white wines, but are open to try other options. I just don't want to place all my bets on Porto because we are not fans of fortifies wines.
If anyone is familiar with these places, we will also be spending 1.5 days in Sintra, 1 day in Nazarre and 1 day in Fatima. We'll mostly be in the touristy areas, so it would be useful if you can mention any places with good food here too.
Obrigado a todos!
