If you're like me and find yourself traveling I80 between the Bay Area and the Lake/Reno a lot, you probably get tired of fast food. There are a few alternatives: the pies at Ikeda's (but the wait can be intolerable), MurderBurger and that little Japanese place at the Foresthill Exit in Auburn (name escapes me; inexpensive and usually good...cash only kind of place).
But our favorite spot lately is the little Mexican grocery (Lupita's?? I'm bad with names) at the Pitt School Road exit at Dixon. It is south of the freeway about a half block on the right hand side, just past the gas station. There is a Mexican restaurant next door, which is ok, but we prefer the grocery. Most days they have excellent homemade tamales (Whenever we're heading down to the Bay Area from Reno my kids always ask if we can stop for tamales....), tortas, and the like. We are especially fond of the tamales, and they are inexpensive. Grab a few, get some of their salsa, and a Cidral Mundet (Mexican Apple Soda) from the fridge. This a great breakfast, lunch, or dinner!
