I cannot claim to be a master of the NYC pizza scene, for I have only been here 7 months. Still, in that short time I have done much to raise my credibility. I have been to Nick's, Patsy's (on E. 117th), Lombardi's, Grimaldi's, DiFara, Franny's, Una Pizza Neopolitina (sp?). I've been to John's, Joe's, Sal & Carmine, Full Moon & more.
Now, when it comes to Inwood, you wouldn't think there is good pizza, but you'd be wrong. Grandpa's Brick Oven Pizza, on Broadway right by Isham, is a venerable slice joint. In fact, it's one of the best slice joints I've been to. It's very similar to Joe's, but the crust is a tad thinner. If you live in the Inwood area or are ever around, I recommend it. I'm not sure if it deserves a trip from Red Hood or Flushing or what not, based on taste, but if you feel like being surprised that a good pizza place exists in a Dominican section of Inwood, perhaps it's worth your time.
