Good Paczki at Bennison's, Evanston

Kenny from Rogers Park | Mar 4, 2003 12:31 PM

Just hulped down some Paczki from Bennison's Bakery in Evanston, corner of Davis and Maple. The bottom line: They are very, very good, better than the much hyped Paczki at (the Polish) Oak Mill bakery in Niles (which seem too dense and hard to me) and several other bakeries I've tried around town. The bakery offers a variety of fillings--cheese (topped with powdered sugar), fresh strawberry and cream, apricot (topped with frosting), apple (topped with frosting and cinnamon), and custard. I absolutely love the cheese filled and strawberry and cream Paczki. The cheese filling is very light and creamy--a big winner. The strawberry and cream Paczki are also very light and delightful, although the dough may be too light for the filling, in the opinion of some (not me).

If you're around Evanston today, go get yourself some Paczki at Bennison's. You won't be disappointed. All of the varieties are winners!
