Took a day off work yesterday to take some out of town friends to Yosemite. We were driving through Mariposa when I saw a sign, "Jantz Bakery". I immediately instructed the driver to pull over. Yes, the famed Mennonite bakery in Atwater now has a branch on Main Street (Highway 140/49) in Mariposa. It is small, with just baked goods and coffee (no restaurant, but they do have a restroom and a few tables), but the basics are all there just waiting for a perfect snack stop on the way up the hill. Highly recommended as a place to stock up before heading into Yosemite.
We tried dinner rolls, creamy and buttery and just as good as a breakfast snack, and excellent cookies (sugar, chocolate chip, and my favorite, oatmeal with m and m's) which were devoured during the hike later. Also picked up a pie and some sourdough bread. Another customer mentioned that their apricot pie is amazing in season. The very friendly counter worker told us they opened just before Thanksgiving. Wish I'd known sooner!
An excellent addition to a surprisingly (it is a small town, after all) good food scene in Mariposa.
