Good Value in Manhattan

I've been a long-time Chowhound reader, but never a poster. So here goes nothing...

I live in Toronto but am visiting Manhattan in the coming weeks. I like to cook, but I realize my limits (and the limits of the kitchen in my apartment), I don't mind spending money on nicely executed food, but I want to get good value for money.

So that's my question -- what are your thoughts on some of the best value for money in Manhattan. It doesn't need to be inexpensive, just good value. It should deliver on investment.

For example, I had a fantastic lunch at Eleven Madison Park last year that I thought was fantastic value, even though it came to about $150 pp all-in.

Another caveat -- I'm particularly interested in the kind of food that it's worth going to a restaurant for -- for example, I like to bake, but I consider paying money for croissants to be good value, given the work it takes to get it right. Same goes for fresh pasta (especially filled pasta), since I've never been particularly successful making it myself, and so I'd consider good ravioli to be something I'd happily spend top dollar on when I'm dining out.

Hopefully the topic's not too broad -- but I'd love to hear your thoughts!
