Recently my job moved from Back Bay to Woburn. This event was disappointing for many reasons, one of which was the sudden radical change in the landscape of good local foods.
Thus far I've found one really good place in the area I thought I'd share for fellow Burlington/Woburn area daytime travellers. It's called David's World Famous at 30 Commerce Way. I think there are three installations of DVF .. two in Woburn and one in Burlington but that's it -- they're not a real chain.
They make excellent sandwiches and homemade soups.
I've had a 'special' sandwich of bacon-wrapped scallops, the chinese duck breast sandwich (grilled duck meat with hoisin, bean sprouts, and peapods on a french roll, $6.00), and the roast beef sandwich (beef roasted fresh by them)
Sandwiches are 5.00 - 7.00. They also offer salads and pasta dishes, none of which have I tried.
Soups are made fresh. Examples include Cuban Black Bean, Chicken Noodle, Soups Turkey Vegetable, and, of course, Clam Chowder.
As a duck fiend I am particularly into that duck sandwich but everything I've tried there has been top quality. This place is much better and more interesting than the local Au Bon Pain and Panera Bread stuff that's otherwise pretty ubiquituous in this area.
Apparently they make an excellent homemade chicken salad and they offer hand-cut fries (as well as sweet potato fries) .. all of this is still untasted by me though.
Moving the office from Back Bay to Woburn was been uncool but David's is definitely a bright spot.
Anyone else ever been there?
