Good Korean in Hicksville - Koreana/Bonchon

We enjoyed our meal at Koreana / Bonchon Chicken the other day. Apparently, this is a branch of the Bonchon chicken that is well reviewed in the City.

The chicken takes a while to prepare and was the last dish to arrive. You have a choice of wings, drum sticks or "special," which is a mix of the two. You also choose between Soy Garlic Sauce or Hot Sauce. They let us order half-and-half - I enjoyed the slightly sweet soy garlic sauce a little more.

We ordered an appetizer of rice cake w/hot spicy sauce. It was very good, and we ended up ordering a non-spicy version for our four year old.

The vegetable dumpling we ordered was okay - nothing special. I didn't try the seaweed soup, but my wife said it was too salty.

The shrimp friend rice was very good and very different from the Chinese style. We also had a udon noodle soup, which seemed more Japanese than Korean to me, but was tasty and fresh.

Our last dish was a fried, clear noodle, which also was quite good.

My personal favorites were the rice noodle and the chicken. It's exciting to see an authentic Korean restaurant in Hicksville.

This is next door to the H&Y Market Place at 478 Plainview Road, near the corner of Old Country and S. Oyster Bay Road.
