Just finished four days in Paradise. The good: Hogfish Bar for lunch. Chilled, steamed shrimp are perfect! Fish sandwich(no Hogfish available) were Asian yellowtail. Ordinary.
Turtle Kraal's for dinner: good value(for Key West). Wine list is reasonable. Fish dip is excellent. Avoid crab cakes; in fact, avoid all crab cakes in Key West!
The better: El Maison de Pepe for lunch. High ceilings(think cool), good service, great sandwiches(cuban "mix" is super). BO's Fishwagon is loads of character and good food. Fish sandwich is fine. Conch fritters are a good excuse for everything else in them(green onions, peppers, unidentified good stuff!).
The best: A&B Lobster house is busy, professional, a bit pricey, perfectly situated, and quality food, quality service. Blue Heaven is quirky, great food, excellent service, Very fresh fish. Both wine lists are reasonable, friendly. Lots of "knowns" for those of us who try to stock at home $10's that taste like $30's. All crab cakes are no more than adequate. My standard for crab cakes at the moment is the Brick Wall in Stuart, Florida(rave follows).
