today being one of the those days when the sun had its usual bouts of indecison of whether to shine or not, we armed ourselves with the usal anti-rain battery: plenty of sweaters, umbrellas, plastic. the mission was to get some decent veg. food and then perhaps even make it down to a country pub by a river.
we made it as far as chetna, a gujarati restaurant which also makes idlis, dosas and pan fried pizza. its at 420 wembley high street in london about ten miles from kensington, mostly highway. and the good news is that they have a pretty decent thali (the chetna special). there were a couple of other choices (mysore thali etc) but i'd stay with the house special if you ever find yourself ordering there.
the kadi, samosa, brinjal and peas were as good as anything back home in india. disappointingly, no daal and the potato bhaji was just ok, sadly. the bhel puri-ish starters were not bad either (but then i'm not a big fan of this stuff anyway). good kulfis and srikand to finish off.
easily one of the better meals i've had in old blighty.
