good, not great

Hello all. Just returned from Paris and felt the need to report back. I poured over Chowhound in the weeks leading up to our trip for suggestions. Felt the need to report back. We went to:

L'ami Jean- Loved it. Our favorite. The service was friendly and helpful. Food was amazing. Rice pudding was a fun surprise. Sat near the kitchen and love watching Chef Stephane oversee EVERY meal that left his kitchen!

Ze Kitchen Galerie- Eh. We had a very good meal, but not GREAT. My monk fish was a tad undercooked. Then the woman sitting next to me received her meal, and her chicken was undercooked. Atmosphere nice. Good service.

Pierre Gagnaire- For the money... good. Had the tasting menu. Not GREAT. I was hoping to be blown away by this meal. I am a big Charlie Trotter's fan. I've been there quite a few times. Taillevent is a favorite of mine in Paris. Sooo... Service was not as attentive as it should have been. We sat with dirty plates in front of us for long stretches of time. I felt compelled to pour my own water and wine. At one point I asked a server what one of the elements of one of our dishes was. Her response was to giggle and say she did not know. She never found out for us. ?? Chef made the rounds to say hello, which is nice that he cooks in his own restaurant.
For nearly $900 American Dollars, it should have been FABULOUS.

Will keep reading the board. Very fun! Thank you for the suggestions!
