good food in Perth Amboy?

sukytawdry | Nov 5, 2003 07:36 AM

I'll be in Perth Amboy for 3 or 4 all-day meetings and one 3-day trip in the next couple months. Driving down Smith St the other day I saw some places that looked to be worth a stop for lunch or for stuff to bring home.

Sipos bakery was doing a brisk business -- what's the best thing to get there? Any recommendations for other bakeries? Ethnic groceries?

And lunch -- what local or authentic ethnic specialties should I be sure not to miss? No food too strange...no price too low...I'm a pretty adventurous eater and I don't mind having to point at what I want if I don't share a language with the folks behind the counter.

For my 2 dinners in/near Perth Amboy, what do you recommend? I searched the archives and came up with a Portuguese place and that Brazilian meat restaurant on the river. Those 2 oughta do me, but I'm interested in other options, too, especially cheap eats worth going out of my way for.

Thanks.
