Is there good food in Great Britian?

Well, of course there are...

However, I've never been to GB. Lived in Italy, visited most other countries in Europe fairly extensively, and of course love to eat.

One reason I've avoided GB is food is my central pursuit when I travel, and GB's culinary reputation is not...the finest.

My question: Surely one can dine well for $$$ in London and other cities, however what about the smaller towns and more inexpensive restaurants? Or am I going to be eating fish&chips and bangers for 10 days? Bear in mind, we have a 6 year old.

I'm in the midst of planning my summer vacation, and I have 3 nights in London, so I'll be going there regardless. However, I'm torn between going back to Italy (the tried and true) vs. tooling around Scotland and GB (about 8 days extra). BTW, I begin with 5 nights in Paris. Total vacation about 17 nights.

Thanks.

Jon
