Had a long 4th of July weekend in Beaver Creek and had several good meals. Lunches at Golden Eagle and Avondale were excellent. Dinner at Ti Amo was wonderful. Wife and daughter both had the same thing they always have -- Chicken Scarpariello. Yummy. I had a special rib eye cooked just right medium rare and smothered in mushrooms and sauce that was a killer. Had a really fine dinner at Grouse Mountain Grill, dining in the bar enjoying Tony Gulizia at the piano. We had excellent apps and then rack of Colorado lamb, pretzel crusted pork chops and a fabulous hanger steak. Best meal of the trip was at Sweet Basil in Vail. Lunch there Friday was the way I remember Sweet Basil (I thought it had dropped off some the last few visits) and we were blown away. Heirloom tomato salad, grilled golden tomato gazpacho and gorgonzola dolce and mushroom tarte were starters, followed by Alaskan Troll King Salmon, slow cooked pork carnitas tacos and crispy rock shrimp and calamari (on the app list, but great as a main course). Had excellent service and then ended with a pound cake with strawberries (similar to strawberry shortcake) and the unvelieveable Warm Sticky Toffee pudding cake with whipped cream and an order of house-made vanilla ice cream on the side. Just over the top!
