good food in bad places

I've been hesitating to recommend this place because it's truly a pit, but here goes. Just off the Church St. stop on the street referred to as Little Bengladish, is a place called Suganda. It's a hole in the wall filled with men, no women. Everything is served from a steam table and looks awful. But I've been buying food there for a long time and most of it--I'm not a fan of their fried food--is truly delicious. Last Friday I bought a big serving of tandori chicken and it was moist and spicy--better than an Indian restaurant I've tried. I also tried a lentil stew with big tender pieces of beef that had a slight cinnamon taste, and zucchini with some sort of sauce that was wonderful. The rice is perfect. The meal fed two of us for about $13. I don't recommend eating there--its looks will detract from the meal. But the food is really good.
