good experience at Picante Grill

Hey everyone, I'm not an expert food critic, but I did want to just tell the board I had a good lunch today at Picante Grill, which is south of UIC, on Halsted.

For an appetizer we had an appetizer of cheese with tortillas, it was a mix of 4 cheeses. Pretty decent. Fundidos Queso was the name I think?

But I thought the stars of the meal were the entrees. My torta was very tasty, with a great side of potatoes (oven roasted I think). It also came with a great salad with cilantro dressing which was really unique and tasty. My friend had cheese enchilada with green sauce. I didn't taste them, though she liked them and she is 100% Mexican. I did taste her refried beans which were among the best we've ever had. All I can say is that every aspect of the meal had flavor, which is so rare.

The decor was very nice, new, and fresh. The place looks new but I'm not sure. It is pretty small though, so I could imagine it could get crowded easily. I'm not sure if there is a back room or not.

They have a website. FYI lunch is a lot more economical than dinner. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly. The only downside was my torta was a bit cooler, but mainly since we dawdled while eating the appetizer.
