Very good experience at Butcher Cafe

Adrienne | Mar 9, 2005 09:35 PM

We had dinner for 3 at the Butcher Cafe tonight and were delighted -- it definitely exceeded my expectations. However, we actually ordered lunch so maybe I can only vouch for that...

What happened was, after ogling the menu outside, we requested permission to order sandwiches which were far less expensive and more enticing. Plus, as we were dining at about 5:20, it was just too early for huge platters. They obliged, bringing us sandwich menus, and not acting at all put out by this request, despite the fact that we spent less than half as much as we would have if we'd ordered entrees. They still offered us each a complimentary glass of wine (red, fine) and were attentive.

My DCs ordered a chicken caesar wrap and a sausage onion hero which were pretty normal good sanwiches, but I had a really fantastic sandwich: A Monty Christo of some kind... I think they did some kind of punn on the name of the sandwich... which was basically Turkey and cheese on huge slabs of Challah french toast, covered in really good syrup. It was absolutely amazing. We also shared for dessert a banana-bourbon-cake or bread pudding or something like that with ice cream that was phenomenal, if a little oddly similar to my sandwich.

My share all told was $13. Not bad at all -- plus, 5 hours later, I'm still very full. Definitely worth another shot for those of you who gave up while they were switching chefs/management.
