My companion and I are major foodies and enjoy active city trips with a big gastronomic part and a wide variety of cultural options. Commonly, we walk around the city the whole day and go for a very nice (fine-dining) experience in the evening. We try to find local spots and activities places that are unique to the city in question, though this is probably obvious, and I do a lot of research beforehand. Budget isn't an issue since this is our passion.
So now we are looking towards a city trip in June/July/August thereabouts. Preferably, in or close to Europe. We'd prefer if it is not too overcrowded and not too hot, as well. We are also wary of cities being closed down during vacation - so we try to take that into account as well
For instance, we went to Rome this February which was perfect since it is low-season and has very nice cultural activities and a very nice local cuisine, though lacking in international dishes. Also, we went to Stockholm in August which was very nice but had a lot of places being closed over that period.
So what would you recommend?
