Yesterday I went to my favorite place in the LA area -- I usually go every few months -- for a great egg salad sandwich, and was dismayed to find they had changed hands.
This had been a little family owned sub shop in a strip mall across the street from the Carson Mall. It was owned by a Japanese family for years, at one time it was called Bud's Subs but they subsequently changed the name.
The new place is now a Teriyaki joint, I won't give the name because it was totally forgettable food (being an adventurous hound, I figured since I was there I might as well give it a shot -- but when your tummy is set for egg salad, nothing else quite fills the bill, but the teriyaki was not so great).
Not sure why good egg salad is so hard to come by, it is a relatively easy dish to make -- hard boiled eggs, mayo, some seasoning, some chopped celery maybe -- but I've come across very few places that make it well. Interestingly, they have all been Japanese owned, why that is is a mystery to me.
If anyone knows off a good egg salad sandwich in LA, please post!
