Looking for good eats on Union Street...

nooodles | Feb 2, 2005 12:12 PM

Three gal pals and I are spending a day shopping and lounging up on Union Street (not Union Square!), and I need food recs to complete the day.

This is the first time all four of us will be in one place at one time in a couple of years, so as hostess I need to dazzle them with SF cuisine. We definitely need to do lunch somewhere on Union between Franklin and Fillmore. For lunch, ambience is a little more important than food. Something light and simple, but well prepared (sandwiches, salads, small plates?) I remember a little French (?) cafe where people always seem to be eating chocolate souffles. Is food there any good? Hopefully no more than $10 a head, plus tax/tip/drinks.

Dinner will be our splurge meal, so food matters more than anything else. I'm just asking for Union Street restaurants because otherwise I'm going to open myself up to a huge thread about all the foods in SF. If there's nothing good there, we'll go elsewhere. But if there's something I haven't tried that happens to be on/near Union Street, chime in!! (example: I would never have got to Mezes without CH recs, and i LOVE it!)

Thanks, all.
