Good eats: Tango in Arlington and Craigie St. Bistrot

Went to Tango in Arlington for the first time last night and had a great experience. I seem to remember sort of middling comments previously on the board but a friend's Argentine colleagues swear by the place so we gave it a try. We'll be back.

For apps, had empanadas -- more flavorful and more moist filling than I've had elsewhere, with a good non-greasy crust. Interesting heart of palm salad and a hot dish of provolone with spices. For mains, of course, we had to get beef in several varieties. Two in our party had the short ribs, I had a skirt steak special, our fourth had another steak. Excellent cuts of meat cooked perfectly, nicely seasoned, and accompanied by steamed veggies and choice of potato or rice. Long list of reasonably-priced Argentine wines; unfortunately I've forgotten the name of the bottle recommended by our server, which we enjoyed.

Also last Sunday did the "Chef's Whim" post 9-pm tasting menu at Craigie Street Bistrot which has to be one of the best deals around for $30. All four courses were superb, with explosive flavors (mixed vegetable salad in walnut oil, wellfleet clams + sole stuffed with crayfish, skirt steak w/ mushrooms, homemade ice cream and a flan-like dish with berries.
