good eats across europe

Sr. Big-dog,

So,, you're an expert on Barcelona. Well, I'm heading
over there (well,
actually Portugal, Spain, France and Italy) this
Wednesday for a month
long wander. I'm more or less traveling by word of
mouth and friendly
recommendations.

Being that we have a similar take on food, and what
makes a dining
experience memorable, I'd love to get your take on
European 'must
visits'. And, if you have any suggestions as to good
mid-priced/inexpensive hotels, I'd be also be most
appreciative.

By the way, if I may offer a recommendation-- This is
a sunday ritual
I've grown quite fond of (though I suspect it will work
most any day):
The combination of a cup of coffee and a vanilla, anise
and current
twist from Bouley Bakery, consumed walking up the
Hudson can offer
simple pleasure verging on transcendence. And all for
$2.50.

Anyway, I'd love to hear your suggestions for
Barcelona, and anywhere
else you know of.

Thanks.

Matthew Kronsberg
