a good cup of joe--bistro du coin

There were some recent discussions about where to find a decent espresso. Today I had a really nice and "authentic" french expresso at Bistro du Coin.

Full disclosure: I usually prefer the smoother and less bitter Spanish or Italian espressos and always add a packet of sugar, so I'm not exactly a purist. (Though lots of French people "faire le canard" dip a sugar cube into their expresso, let the coffee soak in and then eat the cube--what a rush!)

But this was a really satisfying espresso complete with the beautiful frothy goodness on the top.

We enjoyed the rest of our meal, as well. Mussels in a creamy leek sauce, frites, haricots verts in a butter and garlic sauce, salade verte with roquefort and a really flavorful assortment of charcuterie. But, mon dieu, it made for an unbelievably rich meal. Definitely not a place for those who are in any way counting their calories, carbs or fats...vive la différence!
