good crusty italian bread in the EV

we used to get great bread of this description at Ferucci's on first ave, but last year they went and closed on us without warning (anyone know what happened to them?). their bread came from an oustide bakery, but i'm not sure from where. so now i'm looking for place where we can reliably get good peasant-style bread, filled with holes and encased in a thick toasty crust.

any help will be hugely appreciated. thanks....
